Consultation
The consultation will be constructed of a few key parts:
- Case History
- Examination
- Treatment Procedure
Case History
During your consultation, a detailed case history will be taken where you’ll be able to share:
- Details of your condition (inc. how long you’ve had the complaint, how it started and how it’s progressed to date)
- Any relevant medical history
- Any Prescribed medication your taking
- Any other treatment modalities you’ve tried
- Any other relevant information
Examination
As it’s not possible to conduct an examination in the usual way, appropriate adjustments to this aspect of the consultation. Your osteopath will ask to see the symptomatic area, they’ll also ask you to demonstrate your range of movement (and any limitations you may be experiencing). You may also be asked to perform some special movements to enable your practitioner to test the area further. You’ll be encouraged to describe how you’re feelIng during these active movements to provide a more thorough picture.
Treatment Procedure
Due to the online nature of your appointment, it will not be possible to receive any ‘hands on’ treatment. However, in its place, you will directed through the most beneficial:
- Strengthening exercises
- Mobilising exercises
- Stretching exercises
- Recommendations & advice
Your osteopath will stay on the line to take you through any specific self massage techniques. This will allow you the opportunity to share what you’re experiencing so relevant adjustments can be made. Your practitioner will also demonstrate and guide you through some carefully selected exercises that best suit your personal requirements.
You May Need
Be sure to have a note pad and pen handy (to take any notes you may need). It’s advisable to have some oil available to you (suitable for application on your skin). This may be required for any Self Directed Massage techniques shared.
